SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Sarasota County high school is now ranked the best in Florida, according to U.S. News & World Report.
The publication surveyed more than 1,300 schools statewide, looking at factors including college readiness and performance on state assessments. Pine View School received the No. 1 ranking.
Pine View serves gifted students in grades two through 12. Principal Dr. Stephen Covert said what happens inside the classroom is what sets the school apart.

Covert said the school’s approach is not just about bringing gifted students together, but about giving them the tools to succeed through instruction and support. He said this year’s graduating class reflects that success.
“It’s the highest number it’s ever been. 21% of the senior class is a national merit semifinalist, which is just amazing,” Covert said.
Covert said the results come back to creating an environment where students can grow.
