Sweet Melody Ice Cream has added two more shops, bringing its nostalgic, music‑infused personality to The Hive in Flagler Village and West Flagler Street.
The 691‑square‑foot space in Fort Lauderdale channels a 1960s rec room, complete with vinyl spinning all day. It’s a fitting backdrop for a brand born from founder Mike Romeu’s love for music (and his aptly named daughter, Melody).
Romeu’s start in the business began with a $50 ice cream maker he bought in 2014 that sat untouched for more than a year — until the loss of his job. With free time on his hands, he pulled the machine out of storage, and the rest is history.
The brand officially launched in Kendall in 2016, followed by the opening of a second shop at The Citadel in 2024.
Sweet Melody scoops small‑batch classics alongside inventive seasonal creations. Among the 12 rotating flavors are Kooki Monster, packed with homemade chocolate chip cookies and chocolate sandwich cookies; Bo & Jo’s Guava Cream Cheese (the first flavor Romeu created); Abuela’s Flan, inspired by Romeu’s grandmother; and Cookie Buttah, loaded with Biscoff cookies. If you’re more of a traditionalist, there’s Vanilla Bean, Ecuadorian Chocolate, Pistachio and Bourbon Pecan. Even vegan visitors can enjoy non-dairy options such as Midnight Chocolate Truffle or Strawberry Banana Sorbet. The Fort Lauderdale shop also features an exclusive flavor, The Hive, a vanilla ice cream with chocolate and honeycomb candy.
