TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — As Florida State fans gear up for the debut of the Garnet and Gold this weekend, one Gadsden County super fan is determined not to miss the season opener — but first she has to find someone she can trust to watch her children.
Daphne Wilson and her husband, Cody, moved from Indiana to the Big Bend seven years ago and quickly became Noles football fans. Wilson said they want to attend games, but they have to make sure their children are being watched by a safe adult.
“Even if we don’t take the kids we like to go ourselves sometimes too at the games,” Wilson said. “Because I try to go to every home game if we can especially this year because last year we didn’t get to go much because of babysetting, so we want to start out early on the post.”
To do that, the Wilson family has turned to social media to reach, screen and vet a pool of babysitters. Wilson said her husband came up with the idea to find a local babysitter.
“For me it means a lot especially because my kids are my life and so I need to be able to trust who’s going to come into our home not only with my kids but being inside of my home,” Wilson said. “I need to be able to trust them that they are not going to do anything that they are not going to do anything that they are not supposed to.”
So far, the family has received a few comments on their post.
Chelsea Noble of Twinkle Toes Nanny Agency said planning for something as simple as attending a football game can be difficult for parents.
“As a mom myself and two-time FSU grad, I know how much planning goes into doing something as simple as going to a football game when you have children,” Noble said. “We want parents to be able to enjoy FSU game days without feeling like childcare has to be the reason they stay home. Our nannies are all at least 18 years old, are CPR certified, have a criminal and civil background check on file.”
Florida State is scheduled to host New Mexico State on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
