The day after the Dayton Fire Department called off active searching for a man who went missing in the Great Miami River, a body was discovered that officials believe could be the missing person.
In a release, the fire department said that at around 5 p.m., recreational kayakers called 911 to report finding a body in the river near Guthrie Road.
Crews responded and recovered the man’s body.
The release said that while they suspect the body is of the missing man, it is unconfirmed, and the final identification will be made by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The search for a missing man began around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, when a man was reported in the Great Miami River near Carillon Boulevard.
A full water rescue response followed, with multiple boats in the water, crews searching the nearby riverbanks, using SONAR devices and calling in help from the Miami County Dive Team. When crews were unable to find the man for several hours, the rescue operation was changes to a recovery one.
The search continued Monday and Tuesday, with crews from the Dayton Fire Department, Dayton Police Department, Five Rivers MetroParks, Moraine Fire Division, Texas EquuSearch, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources helping to look.
Finally, after the third day of searching, the fire department called off active searching.
