Three teenagers accused of beating a homeless man in July are now being charged as adults.
According to the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, the three teenagers attacked and “repeatedly beat” a 64-year-old man on July 13.
The office announced on Thursday that Samari Bryant, 13, Corliss Sirmons, 14, and Javonnie Council, 16, would be charged as adults with attempted murder.

Tampa police say the teens admitted they were looking for homeless people to “mess with” because they were bored.
Around 7:45 a.m. on July 13, the teens allegedly attacked the man after they spotted him outside a Walgreens on North Nebraska Avenue. Police say the man suffered significant injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and broken ribs.
The three teens had allegedly attacked another man and a woman around 2:30 that same morning on East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to police. The woman was injured after she was reportedly hit with a rock in the back of the head.
“No human being should be treated as a target for someone else’s entertainment,” Lopez said in a statement. “Given the severity of the violence and the disturbing nature of these defendants’ actions, these charges are appropriate and necessary to hold each defendant accountable for this crime.”
The attorney’s office plans to ask a judge to hold the teens without bond until their trial begins.
