Ocoee fire assessment fee to increase in fiscal 2027

OCOEE, Fla. — An increase to the city of Ocoee’s fire assessment fees is coming.

During the Aug. 18 meeting, city leaders voted to increase the annual fire assessment fee to a flat rate of $383 for a single-family home for Fiscal Year 2027.

The city of Ocoee says the adjustments to the fire assessment rate are a result of rising costs and to keep wages competitive.

Commissioners also weighed the possible loss of funds if voters approve the property tax amendment on the November ballot.

The new rate was decided upon based on the projection of costs for the span of five years.

“There is no other option,” said City Manager Craig Shadrix. “For this extra couple hundred dollars a year, we can keep everything in place that you currently have.”

The funds will go towards personnel, operations, equipment, and salary.

Fanny Le Morvan was one of over a dozen residents who voiced their concerns regarding the fee increase during a commission meeting earlier this month. Her bill is now increasing by over $100.

“Everything right now is rising. The cost of living in the last year has been crazy. It does affect me because that’s another thing that I have to pay more for,” Le Morvan said. “I’ve been part of Ocoee since 2007, and I think we have a duty to come and voice our opinions. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the decision that was made.”
