Hurricane Help Florida and StormResQ will host a prep event Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Bob Buckhorn River Center in Tampa. Free kits will be available. Residents can meet with disaster-recovery groups and local contractors.
According to Tampa.gov, the event runs from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and costs nothing to attend. Hurricane Help Florida plans to distribute 500 resident hurricane-prep kits and 250 pet-prep kits while supplies last.
Guests can arrive earlier, from noon to 2:00 p.m., by making a $45 donation. This includes lunch from SaltBlock Hospitality and helps fund ongoing rebuilding work.
The inaugural “Remember. Rebuild. Prepare.” event arrives two years after the 2024 hurricanes. Many Florida families still work to rebuild from those storms, while communities across Greater Tampa Bay continue preparing for future weather events.
The event aims to raise awareness and support for families who remain in damaged homes. Pre-registration is required.
John Bennett, Chief of Staff for the City of Tampa, will attend. Nonprofit partners, volunteers, community leaders, and local businesses committed to strengthening disaster prep and long-term recovery will also participate.
Residents can register at the “Remember. Rebuild. Prepare.” website.
