The San Francisco Candy Factory at Universal Studios Florida has been transformed into the Carey Candy Company for Halloween Horror Nights, now offering themed candy and confections inspired by the event.
Carey Candy Company
The candy shop was previously decorated with Jaws elements as part of the temporary “Little Amity” land. Now signage at the front entrance declares it the “Carey Candy Company,” with “Save Carey” banners hanging on columns.
A rusted retro “Carey” sign has been positioned next to the building entrance.
Carey, Ohio is the hometown of one of the Halloween Horror Nights creators and is used as a recurring setting for haunted houses and scare zones. It will be the setting of this year’s house H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!
Signs in the front windows indicate “All items on loan from the Carey Historical Society.”
Immediately inside the shop is a version of the Carey billboard from the Welcome to Scarey: Horror in the Heartland house at Halloween Horror Nights 30. Instead of the “Horror in the Heartland” tagline, it reads “A nice place to live!”
The faces of the nice 1950s family have been cut off and torn away, while faded blood splatters appear across the sign, with one splatter vaguely drawn in the shape of an “S” in front of Carey, thus spelling out “Scarey”. Dirty crates and merchandise shelves are positioned in front of the billboard, while rotting jack-o’-lanterns decorate the ends of the display.
The shop’s cooler has been adorned with “Meetz Meats Frozen Treatz” decals. A Meetz Meats food booth will be serving gruesome treats to guests during Halloween Horror Nights.
A decorative newspaper rack features an issue of the Carey Today newspaper with the headline “Carey Redevelopment Official.” The article includes a variety of references to past Halloween Horror Nights offerings, including the All Nite Die-In: Double Feature and Hive. According to the article, Carey Candy Co. is a new addition to the town, part of revitalization efforts to fix Carey’s reputation.
On the floor throughout the store are decals of flyers, posters, and other paraphernalia related to Carey, including a Drive-In movie marathon schedule, Carey Candy Co. menu, and Pumpkin Guts poster. Pumpkin Guts was one of the fictional films in Slaughter Sinema at Halloween Horror Nights 28.
On the wall behind the confectionery cases and on a nearby column are more movie posters from Slaughter Sinema, like Barber Chop and Swamp Yeti. Posters also reference Hellgate Prison (HHN XIV), Legendary Truth: The Collective, WKNB Television Station, and H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror (HHN 21).
There’s a large sketch of the Pumpkin Lord, plus a poster and newspaper article for the reopening of the Tribute Theater, the 2022 Tribute Store.
A poster featuring the Meetz Meats mascot Meaty Meetz reads “Carey: A nice place to live…” On the front of the check-out counter is a blood-splattered Carey sign.
Hanging over a candy factory mural is a large banner reading “Carey 4 Ever!”
The props above candy and merchandise displays include even more references. There are crates and boxes labeled “Spirit Seekers,” a group that branched off Legendary Truth and investigated The Wyandot Estate, as explored in the house Legendary Truth: The Wyandot Estate (Halloween Horror Nights: Twenty Years of Fear).
A WKNB sign is next to a TV featuring the H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror graphic. H.R. Bloodengutz hosted a creature feature show on WKNB.
There are some large creepy masks among the jack-o’-lanterns. Another TV features the graphic for The Orfanage: Ashes to Ashes (Halloween Horror Nights: Twenty Years of Fear). Next to that is a sign for the orphanage, Good Harvest.
Graphics for The Spawning (Halloween Horror Nights: Ripped from the Silver Screen) are next to a green-splattered Wyandot County manhole cover. And there’s a Havoc: Dogs of War (Twenty Years of Fear) sign.
More Carey Candy Company logos are on crates, walls, and a staff door.
