ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A teen has been arrested after a 25-year-old veteran was reportedly shot and killed trying to break up a fight earlier this year, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident happened back in April in the 2200 block of Weston Point Drive.
At the time, two men in their 20s had been shot and were subsequently taken to the hospital, where one of them died, deputies explained.
That victim was identified as 25-year-old Robert Shealey, Jr.
Shealey’s family told News 6 that he had served four years in the National Guard and was injured in the line of duty.
They also claimed he was trying to break up a fight on a basketball court and keep the peace when he was fatally shot.
“He kept trying to help everywhere he went, and he tried to diffuse an argument or fight. Then, this young man comes in and guns my baby down like a terrorist,” said his mother, Star Williams.
On Wednesday, though, deputies revealed that Jamari Calloway, 16, was arrested in the case and now faces a charge of first-degree murder.
No additional information has been provided at this time.
