CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The Cape Coral Police Department has arrested 47-year-old James Eric Johnson Jr. (DOB 01/03/1979) following a robbery at a local convenience store.
On Thursday, August 27, 2026, at approximately 2:10 AM, Cape Coral Police Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a convenience store at the 800 block of Cape Coral Pkwy W. The store clerk reported that a male suspect entered the business, concealed several Beatbox alcoholic beverages inside a backpack, and attempted to leave without paying.
When confronted by the clerk outside the store, the suspect made violent threats toward the employee and fled the scene on foot. The clerk immediately contacted law enforcement.
Through cooperative investigative work by the Cape Coral Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, detectives reviewed security camera footage, analyzed previous department records, and positively identified Johnson as the suspect. Investigators also executed a residential search warrant at Johnson’s home with the assistance of the CCPD SWAT Team.
During the execution of the search warrant, Johnson attempted to flee through a rear window and was successfully apprehended with the assistance of CCPD K9 Venom. Evidence linking Johnson to the crime, including the clothing worn during the incident and empty Beatbox beverage containers, was recovered at the residence.
Johnson was placed under arrest and transported to the Lee County Jail. He has been charged with:
