ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A Jones High School student was arrested on Thursday and now faces a variety of charges, including aggravated stalking and child porn possession, according to the Orlando Police Department.
An arrest affidavit shows that the student — identified as Richie Obtenir, 18 — was booked on Thursday morning, though the offense date is listed as Aug. 21.
WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR
School officials said the incident happened off campus.
Meanwhile, court records show that Obtenir is facing the following charges:
Transmission of child sexual abuse material by electronic device or equipment
Knowing possession or control of child sexual abuse material
Promoting sexual performance by a child
Aggravated stalking of a minor under 16 years of age
Digital voyeurism/digital voyeurism dissemination
Sexual cyberharassment
Educational institutions or school boards; penalty for disruption
FIRST APPEARANCE
During Obtenir’s first appearance on Friday afternoon, the prosecutor alleged that “images and videos were disseminated to other students at the school.”
The judge set Obtenir’s bond at $36,000.
“I’m gonna order you have no contact with any victim or witness in this case, that you not access the internet or social media while this matter’s pending — no weapons, no firearms,” the judge said.
DISTRICT STATEMENT
While few details about the case have been provided at this time, News 6 reached out to the school district for more information.
In response, a representative for the district provided the following statement:
“Parents at Jones High School were notified yesterday that the Orlando Police Department arrested a student for a warrant on charges related to a situation that occurred outside of school.
This is the subject of a law enforcement investigation; the student will not return to the campus while this case is ongoing.”
