A perfectly normal day turned into an absolute nightmare for one Florida homeowner. Trigger warning: this article mentions suicide and gun violence. Threads user @felinious_ shared his story online, telling his followers how he discovered a human scalp in his yard on Aug. 27, 2026.

The surreal moment occurred while he had a crew at his home to fix his HVAC unit. According to the post, it all started when he heard a loud “pop.” Because he had people working on his air conditioning unit, he assumed the noise was related to the work and thought they might have blown a fuse. 

But when he looked in on the crew, they were all confused as well, because just after they heard the noise, they saw something fly into the yard. “They said they thought a possum blew up somehow,” the Threads user explained. “I went over to inspect it, and the hair looked way thinner than an .”

However, it wasn’t an animal; it was a piece of a human scalp. Upon further investigation, the homeowner and the work crew discovered what had happened just before the cops arrived. Now, the homeowner’s story is going viral on Threads as people offer him suggestions and support. 

The AC Repair Crew Was the First to Spot the Body

According to the Threads post, after the crew examined the piece of scalp on the ground, they began searching the area to determine where it came from. One of the workers peeked over the fence, which is when he saw that the side of the house next door was covered in blood. The homeowner shared security footage showing the crew’s reaction the moment they told him what they’d found, and all three men appear very shaken up.

Then, the homeowner explained how everything happened very quickly, and officers appeared with their guns out, asking questions about a possible active shooter. 

The Neighbor Took His Own Life

Sadly, the homeowner says that it was eventually discovered that the neighbor had died by suicide. “Cops confirmed neighbor shot himself,” the Threads post continued. “My backyard is a crime scene. There’s a scalp next to my grill and brains in the fence.”

Because the homeowner’s yard contained some of the evidence, he said that the cops spent quite a while back there, and he shared some additional video footage that was recorded by his security camera. The Threads user continued to share posts about the incident until the end of the day, when he said he and his pet cat were going to take a ride to get away from the house for a bit.

People Offered Support in the Comments

The entire incident sounded very traumatizing for everyone involved, so commenters were quick to offer coping suggestions and words of support. 

“I hope you’ll forgive the unsolicited advice, but go play Tetris,” one person wrote while linking to a University of Oxford study about her suggestion. “Studies have shown that playing Tetris soon after a traumatic event can help the brain process trauma.”

Some other people offered to lend an ear if the homeowner wanted to talk, while others suggested he speak to a professional to get more advanced help.
