The Bishop Gorman football team’s game against Columbus (Florida) has been delayed because of lightning.
Kickoff was set for 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET at the game in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
Gorman and Columbus had received the all clear to get onto the field to warm up around 10:30 a.m. PT, but several minutes later, another lightning strike went off in the area, delaying warmups and the start of the game.
Kickoff will be delayed from its scheduled start. The ESPN2 TV broadcast said both teams are hoping to get back onto the field within the hour if there is not another lightning strike in the area.
Gorman’s season-opening game against Losee on Aug. 14 was impacted by lightning. The game was called at halftime with the Gaels taking a 41-0 win.
The Gaels (2-0) are ranked No. 1 nationally by MaxPreps and have not lost to a Florida team since 2013. Under coach Brent Browner, the Gaels are 4-0 against Florida teams since 2021.
