A Florida man stepped in to help after spotting a distressed great white heron lying in his backyard and unable to fly.Dan Monteleone found the large white bird resting on the gravel with its wings spread, appearing weak and in need of assistance. He carefully approached the heron before using a blue-patterned towel to gently secure its wings and protect himself from its sharp beak.Dan then carefully lifted the bird and kept it calm as he and his wife prepared to transport it to a local wild bird sanctuary for care.The rescuers said high levels of sargassum seaweed in the local waters had affected fish populations, which may have contributed to the heron’s weakened and malnourished condition.The bird was taken to the sanctuary where it could receive the care it needed.
