BREAKING: Dolphins Trade QB Quinn Ewers to Jaguars

The Miami Dolphins have made another trade as they continue reshaping their roster ahead of the 2026 regular season.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Dolphins are trading quarterback Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars, with the two teams swapping Day 3 selections in the 2028 NFL Draft as part of the deal.

The move ends Ewers’ brief tenure in Miami after the Dolphins selected the former Texas quarterback with the 231st overall pick in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Ewers entered the NFL with plenty of name recognition following his college career at Texas and received an opportunity late in his rookie season when Miami benched Tua Tagovailoa. That gave the Dolphins an extended look at the young quarterback heading into a pivotal 2026 offseason.

Despite Ewers remaining under contract on an inexpensive rookie deal, Miami has now elected to move on and send him to Jacksonville.

For the Jaguars, the trade provides another young quarterback to develop behind their established options without surrendering premium draft capital. For Miami, the move provides additional clarity to a quarterback room that underwent significant changes during the offseason.

The compensation is unusual in that Miami and Jacksonville are swapping 2028 Day 3 draft picks, rather than Jacksonville simply sending Miami a selection. Day 3 of the NFL Draft consists of Rounds 4 through 7.

The specific selections in the swap will determine how much Miami ultimately gains from moving Ewers.

Miami has not been shy about making trades under its new regime. The Dolphins have made several deals involving players and draft capital over the past year as the organization continues reshaping the roster.
