It isn’t looking good for the former Tennessee QB to stay with the Jaguars.

Joey Aguilar did everything he could with the limited opportunity he was given in Jacksonville.

Unfortunately, it appears that very likely won’t be enough to allow him to stick around with the Jaguars for the 2026 season — at least if you read the tea leaves.

The Jags finished up their preseason with a 19-0 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday, and now final roster cut downs and transactions to get to 53 players is taking place in Jacksonville and across the league.

On Saturday, the Jaguars made a big move that indicates trouble for Aguilar staying with the 2025 AFC South champions. Jacksonville traded for Miami Dolphins QB Quinn Ewers for a 2028 sixth-round pick.

Jacksonville’s trade for Miami’s Quinn Ewers likely closes the book on Joey Aguilar’s time with the Jaguars

That’s a tough break for Aguilar, as it looked like he was playing better football this preseason than Carter Bradley, with whom he was competing for the QB3 spot.

Now, there are three experienced options above Aguilar and Bradley, so it’s even less likely that they’ll stick on either the 53-man roster or possibly even the practice squad, given whether Jacksonville carries all of Trevor Lawrence, Ewers, and Nick Mullens on the 53-man roster.

We’ll find out soon enough if Aguilar is staying in Jacksonville, with the deadline for 53-man roster decisions coming up on Sunday at 6:00 pm ET. If he’s moving on, it’ll be interesting to see if Aguilar finds another landing spot quickly.

The Vols are an interesting team, as there’s no doubt they have plenty of talent on the roster, particularly at the skill positions on offense and linebackers on defense. However, there are plenty of question marks that Tennessee has to answer this year. […]
