The field is set.
Five residents, all committed to Key Biscayne, have declared their candidacy for the three vacant seats on the Village Council come November. We thank Claire London, Fernando Vazquez, Luis Lucho de la Cruz, Oscar SardiƱas and Silvia Tarafa for their commitment to not only preserving the island’s character but building upon it.
As the campaign gets going, Islander News will provide opportunities to get to know the candidates, starting with an “In My Own Words” essay in our Sept. 9 issue. Then at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, we will once again partner with the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce for the Village Council candidate debate, moderated by Steven Moll, vice provost emeritus at FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management.
In our Oct. 7 issue, we will publish the general election’s sample ballot, so you can study the candidates and amendments.
Starting Oct. 1 through the Oct. 28 issue, we will publish your mini-endorsements on candidates and issues.
And remember: the deadline to register to vote is Oct. 5.
