Stellar First Round Propels Miami Golf to Strong Day

NASHPORT, Ohio— Miami Men’s Golf got the season started with a bang, with five players in the field for the RedHawks and Michael Stagnaro competing as an individual in the Virtues Intercollegiate. Sophomore Bric Baird shot a career-best score of 65 (-7) in the first round and kept it coming in round two, posting another impressive score of 68 (-4) to finish the day tied for first overall. The co-host RedHawks head into the final round of the Virtues Intercollegiate in second place, with a team score of 21 under par. Miami had the best first round of any team in the field with a team score of 15 below par.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Baird (65-68=133) started the day off with his best round ever as a RedHawk, going for seven under par in a performance with seven consecutive birdies in the first round. Baird kept the good times rolling in round two, shooting four under par with six birdies to end the day eleven under par and in second place.
Joseph Canitano (68-70=138) also posted a sub-70 performance in round one, notching six birdies to end round one with a score of 68.Canitano ended the day with a score of 70 in his second round, posting four birdies and an eagle on the tenth hole. He heads into Sunday’s final round tied for fourth place.
Liam Nelson (72-70=142) had a consistent first round, shooting even par on both the front and back nine. Nelson improved his score in the second round, going two under to end the day tied in ninth heading into Sunday.
Tyler Anderson (68-74=142) started the season with a 12-hole bogey-free stretch that featured a pair of eagles at No. 7 and No. 10. He finished round one with a score of 68, and went on to shoot a 74 in round two. Anderson heads into the final round of play two under par, tied for ninth place overall.
Jack Callahan (76-74=150) shot four over par in round one, with two birdies on holes three and four. Callahan strung together 10 bogey-free holes in round two, finishing the day at 12 over par through two rounds and tied for 50th place.
Stagnaro (79-77=156) shot seven over par with three birdies in his first round today, and shot five over in round two. He heads into the final round tied for 70th place.
