Inter Miami CF (12W-4L-6D, 42 points) secured a historic 7-1 win over CF Montréal tonight in MLS regular season action, with the result marking the largest margin of victory in Club history. A poker by captain Leo Messi, Academy product Alexander Shaw’s first goal for our First Team, Casemiro’s first strike for Inter Miami, and a goal from Luis Suárez led the team to victory tonight.

Lineup Notes

Inter Miami took the field with Dayne St. Clair in goal; Ian Fray, Casemiro, Maximiliano Falcón, and Noah Allen formed the back four; Rodrigo De Paul, Yannick Bright, and Telasco Segovia started in midfield; Messi, Germán Berterame, and Suárez led the team’s attack.   

Match Action

Inter Miami opened the scoring in the 20th minute, with Casemiro netting his first goal in Inter Miami colors. Segovia whipped in a corner from the left for his ninth assist of the season as Casemiro headed home the ball from the center of the box.

CF Montréal equalized in the 37th minute through a goal from Fabian Herbers.

Messi restored the lead for the hosts before the half in the 40th minute, with our captain scoring with a free-kick from the right end. The goal took the Argentine maestro’s tally to 15 this regular season.

Inter Miami opened the second 45 minutes with Messi doubling the team’s advantage in the 52nd minute with a solo individual effort to leave three defenders behind before striking from the right end of the box.

Inter Miami added a fourth in the 80th minute, with Suárez capping off a fast break with a finish from inside the box. Messi provided the assist on the play with a precise threaded pass for Suárez to break free into space in the opponent’s third. The goal took Suárez’s tally to 11 this regular season, while the assist was Messi’s 10th.

A standout display from the team’s attack rounded out the victory with three more goals in the closing stretch. Messi found the back of the net with a tidy chip in the 83rd minute and with a free kick banger in the sixth minute of added time to reach 18 regular season goals and take the lead in the race for the MLS Golden Boot, while Academy product Shaw recorded his first goal for the Club’s First Team and first MLS goal in the 89th minute.

The 7-1 scoreline would then hold through the final whistle as Inter Miami wrapped up a historic evening at Nu Stadium.
