TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Exciting news is coming to the Market District as a long-awaited roundabout at Maclay Boulevard and Maclay Commerce Drive is set to open officially.
The ribbon-cutting for the roundabout will be held Monday, August 31, at 5 p.m.
Construction on the roundabout has closed Maclay Commerce Drive for months. During that time, customers have had to access businesses on Maclay Commerce Drive west of the intersection via Martin Hurst Road.
Businesses in the area previously told WCTV they were hit hard by the construction, with a noticeable drop in customers since the work began.
Now, the Market District Association says it is looking forward to seeing that change.

Serena Moyle, volunteer president of the Market District Association, says the area has seen a 20% drop in visits over the past year.
“For over a year we have been enduring the 20% drop in visits to our area in the market district.”
She added, “This sign, which says road closed, is no longer going to be the case after 5 o’clock on August 31st.”
Moyle said, “The road, your access into the Market District, your favorite cut-through, is going to be open, and we’re going to celebrate that.”
Starting Thursday, September 3, the Market District will also host an all-access block party week of celebrations.
The celebrations will include music and special promotions from businesses throughout the district.
