DELAND, FLA. (August 30, 2026) – The South Florida women’s soccer team (1-3-0) secured its first win of the season Sunday night, defeating Stetson (0-4-0), 3-0. 
Sophia Cabral led the Bulls’ offensive attack, scoring two goals, while Reese Rupe added her first goal of the season. 

Cabral opened the scoring in the 11th minute after Suetsugu set up the junior forward, who found the back of the net to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead. 

South Florida continued to control the pace of play throughout the opening half, outshooting the Hatters 7-1. In the 34th minute, Brooke Fabri connected with Rupe, who fired a shot into the back of the net to extend the Bulls’ lead to 2-0. Fabri notched her first assist of the season. 

The Bulls carried the momentum into the second half, with Cabral finding the back of the net again in the 46th minute off a feed from Suetsugu. Suetsugu picked up her second assist of the night.

 

South Florida’s defense held Stetson scoreless for the remainder of the match, securing Rourke’s first shutout of the season. The Bulls finished the night with a 12-3 advantage in shots.

Sophia Cabral scored her first two goals of the season. Cabral’s two-goal performance marked the first time a Bull had scored twice in a match since Hedda Ornberg accomplished the feat against Grambling State on Sept. 14, 2025. 
Yui Suetsugu recorded two assists on the night and her first two of the season.
Gaby Rourke secured her first clean sheet of the season and her first shutout since Sept. 18, 2025, against East Carolina. 
Reese Rupe’s goal marked the first collegiate goal of her career and her first as a Bull. 
Brooke Fabri recorded her first assist of the season 
The Bulls now hold a 14-2-2 advantage in the all-time series against Stetson. The Bulls have won the last five meetings between the two programs.

Chris Brown enters his third season as USF head coach after a record-setting debut in 2024, leading the Bulls to 12 wins and coaching both the American Athletic Conference Midfielder and Goalkeeper of the Year. South Florida produced six all-conference players. He recorded the most wins in a debut season with 12 wins. Brown followed that success by guiding the Bulls to a 9-8-3 overall record and a trip to the American Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals in 2025, as South Florida earned a first-round tournament victory and secured three selections to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Watch List entering 2026. Brown spent 17 years as associate head coach (2007–2023), helping USF to three American Athletic Conference titles, eight NCAA appearances, and a 10-year streak of 10+ win seasons. He coached USF’s first All-American, Evelyne Viens, now a Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist, and has developed multiple American Athletic Conference award winners.
