PALM CITY — Mattamy Homes’ Newfield community in Martin County has earned Silver-Level Green Building Certification for land planning and development from the Florida Green Building Coalition.
The certification recognizes sustainable land planning, environmental stewardship and efforts to preserve Florida’s natural resources.
The Florida Green Land Development certification program evaluates communities on neighborhood planning and connectivity, conservation of natural resources, green infrastructure, community amenities and strategies intended to reduce environmental impact. Newfield earned 148 points, exceeding the 109 points required for silver-level certification.
Newfield’s 3,400-acre master plan incorporates conservation, agriculture, education and community connectivity. Nearly 70% of the property is permanently preserved as working farmland, forests, wetlands, lakes and conservation areas.

The community includes a 170-acre sustainable working farm that supports local food production, environmental education and community engagement.
Newfield is home to the Kiplinger Conservancy, where KC Trails, an expanding network of hiking, biking and equestrian trails, provides residents and visitors access to more than 1,800 acres of protected landscapes.
The community also established Martin County’s first Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission-approved gopher tortoise recipient site. The 30-acre protected sanctuary provides a permanent home for the threatened native species within its natural ecosystem.
Designed around the principles of traditional neighborhood design, Newfield includes walkable, connected neighborhoods linking homes with parks, trails, civic spaces, the farm and surrounding natural areas.
Through partnerships with local schools and community organizations, Newfield also offers environmental education and stewardship opportunities using its natural and agricultural resources.
The community’s sustainability efforts include water quality improvement, wetland preservation and restoration, land conservation and light-imprint stormwater management practices designed to capture, retain and naturally filter water while reducing runoff and nutrient impacts to surrounding waterways.
A portion of the property has been made available to support the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan and St. Lucie River restoration efforts.
Newfield offers guided hikes, tree plantings, farm activities and other hands-on conservation programs through partnerships with local schools and organizations. Earlier this year, those efforts were recognized with the Seeds of Stewardship Award from Keep Martin Beautiful for the community’s environmental education initiatives.
