Remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly continue moving west across the Atlantic
FORT MYERS, Fla. —
The Gulf Coast Hurricane Tracking team is monitoring remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly as it quickly moves westward across the central Atlantic Ocean.
As of 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, Dolly is no longer a tropical storm, and is located just more than 1,000 miles to the east of the Leeward Islands and approximately 2,600 miles from the Gulf Coast of South Florida.
The timing of the use of the name “Dolly” is not connected to the recent passing of country music singer Dolly Parton.
The World Meteorological Organization establishes six pre-determined lists of tropical storm and hurricane names years in advance. The name “Dolly” replaced “Diana” in 1990 and was first used in 1996.
At this time, Dolly is not expected to bring direct impacts to the Florida Gulf Coast. The Gulf Coast Storm Team will continue to closely monitor the storm and keep you updated online and on air in the coming days.
