Orlando, FL – Authorities seized approximately 1,800 pounds of suspected marijuana from a commercial shipment that originated in Sacramento, according to the Butts County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said nearly half of the load, or about 900 pounds, was allegedly intended for delivery in Orlando.
The remaining portion was reportedly bound for Atlanta.
Photos released by the sheriff’s office showed bags and packages removed from cardboard boxes inside a trailer.
Officials did not disclose where the shipment was intercepted, what led authorities to inspect it or its estimated street value.
The sender, intended recipients and transportation company were not identified.
Authorities also had not announced any arrests or criminal charges.
Because no suspect was arrested, no arrest report was available for comparison.
California allows recreational marijuana for adults under state law.
Florida permits marijuana use for qualified medical patients but prohibits recreational sales.
Georgia allows registered patients to possess certain low-THC cannabis products but has not legalized recreational marijuana.
Transporting marijuana across state lines remains prohibited under federal law, including when a shipment originates in a state where recreational use is legal.
Sheriff Gary Long said the seizure showed that marijuana is allegedly transported from legal markets into states with more restrictive laws.
He said illicit sellers can avoid taxes, licensing costs, testing rules and other expenses imposed on licensed businesses.
Although Long discussed organized trafficking groups in the illegal marijuana trade, officials did not connect this shipment to any specific cartel or criminal organization.
The investigation remains ongoing.
