HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested Saturday after deputies said he was caught attempting to steal hundreds of dollars’ worth of items from a local store.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the attempted theft occurred at Diddie’s Discount on East Fletcher Avenue.
Deputies responded to the shoplifting call at 7:03 p.m. after a caller reported that someone was actively stealing merchandise.
The caller said the suspect, identified as Demario Card, 45, tried to walk out of the store with more than $400 in stolen items.
Deputies said Card handed back some of the items after being confronted, but still left with more than $100 worth of merchandise before a store employee stopped him again.

Deputies arrived on the scene and arrested Card, who they said also had cocaine on him.
He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail for felony petit theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of cocaine.
According to the sheriff’s office, Card has been convicted of theft 18 times and was released from jail on August 10.
