A source close to the pair claimed in July that Orlando and Katy had been “living on an island of stress” for some time before they officially split up. “Katy and Orlando have been suffering through the same problems that have plagued them for years,” the insider told People.

This week, Katy released her highly anticipated song “bandaids,” marking her first new single since the release of her 2024 album 143.

“Got so used to you letting me down / No use tryna send flowers now / Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t / Band-Aids over a broken heart,” she says.

In the catchy chorus, Katy sings, “Tried all the medications / Lowered my expectations / Made every justification / Bleeding out, bleeding out, bleeding out slow / Band-Aids over a broken heart.”
Katy goes on to say, “On the bright side, we had good times / Nеver faked our pictures / Wе were perfect ’til we weren’t / Now we’ve got too many splinters.” Interestingly, her and Orlando’s breakup came as a shock to the public given their affectionate appearances just months ahead of the news breaking.

In the next chorus, Katy continues to hint that the breakdown of the relationship was partly due to a lack of effort on her partner’s end. “It’s not that complicated / To ask me how my day is / I’m flatlining trying to save this,” she says.
But in spite of everything, Katy highlights, “If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again / The love that we made was worth it in the end.”
Meanwhile, the song’s music video features several apparent references to Orlando. In the opening sequence, an engagement ring can be seen falling down the drain as Katy attempts to wash some dishes — and later on, as she sings the lyrics “I would still do it all over again / The love that we made was worth it in the end,” the camera focuses on a single Daisy, which is presumably a reference to her daughter.

In this particular part, Katy is notably stuck on a train track. After looking at the daisy, however, she finds the strength to free herself and manages to escape moments before a train hits her.
The video features several Final Destination references, including a clear nod at the iconic log scene, which fans have speculated is representative of the hardships Katy has experienced. “Love the way she keeps going even when the world tries to pull her down,” one person said in the comments for the video on YouTube, while another person wrote, “damn i didn’t expect katy to be so open and honest about her last relationship.. that’s beautiful.”

Several fans also commented on the apparent reference to Katy’s daughter in the music video. “The Daisy reference was so beautiful. This is a comeback,” one person said, while another wrote, “Daisy saving her… It’s adorable.”
