A 20-year-old Palm Bay woman is dead after a crash involving three cars and an alligator in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An FHP crash report said that on Sunday, around 11:50 p.m., a 58-year-old man from Canada was traveling south in the center lane on Interstate 95 in a 2010 Mercedes Benz.

He was driving near mile marker 214 when he struck an alligator, according to the report.

The woman, traveling south in a 2004 Toyota Tacoma, swerved to avoid hitting the driver.

She lost control and was ejected from the vehicle, landing in the center lane.

A third driver, in an unidentified vehicle, struck her. That driver left the scene after the collision.

The woman died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
