JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—VyStar Credit Union has pledged $5 million over five years to support the University of Florida’s new graduate campus in downtown Jacksonville, building on the $14-billion credit union’s previous investments in the city’s downtown development.

VyStar said its early multimillion-dollar commitment to the project helped demonstrate private-sector support for an initiative that has since attracted more than $300 million in state, city and private funding.

“As one of the fastest-growing credit unions in the Southeast, we believe our future is tied to the talent we attract and develop” said VyStar President/CEO Brian Wolfburg. “Our partnership with the University of Florida is an investment in Jacksonville’s long-term success, expanding innovation and fueling economic growth that benefits our members and our communities.”

UF and Jacksonville leaders began exploring development of the campus in 2023. Located in the LaVilla neighborhood, the campus is expected to welcome its first students this fall with programs from UF’s College of Design, Construction and Planning and Warrington College of Business, with additional programs and construction planned.

“We’re grateful for VyStar’s generous support and partnership, and I’m thrilled as we prepare to welcome our first students to UFs Jacksonville campus,” UF President Stuart R. Bell said. “The momentum for this important project is building, as is the excitement in the Jacksonville and UF communities.”

VyStar, which moved its headquarters downtown in 2019, has more than 1 million members and 78 branches across Florida and Georgia.
