Oviedo City Council orders immediate removal of Flock cameras
OVIEDO, Fla. —
Oviedo City Council opted for the immediate removal of Flock cameras Monday night during a work session.
This comes after the Florida Department of Transportation released a memo in which it ordered the removal of license plate readers on all state-maintained roads.
Other cities and counties across the state have followed, announcing the shutdown of all license plate readers.
Council approved a lease agreement with Flock in September 2025 for eight license plate readers. All cameras were installed by February 2026.
But at its Aug. 17 meeting, council started considering whether to end the program after hearing questions about who can access the camera data, search it and use it.
During Monday night’s work session, city council members cited the contract with Flock and its data restrictions as the reason for removing the cameras.
Flock cameras are coming down in Oviedo effective immediately.
