For their performances last week, Dominique Popa and Bric Baird are Miami’s Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of August 31.
Dom Popa
Female Winner: Dominique Popa
Dominique Popa recorded her 24th career shutout against Youngstown State, the most in program history. On the way to the shutout, she made two incredible diving saves as part of her eight total saves on the week. A senior from Odenton, Md., she is studying Kinesiology in the College of Education, Health and Society.
Baird, Bric
Male Winner: Bric Baird
Bric Baird (65-68-72=205) took second place overall and helped Miami Golf to a second-place team finish in the RedHawks’ season-opening tournament. Baird had the best first round of any player in the event and went on to finish the Virtues Intercollegiate at 11 under par. Baird’s performance helped Miami to a team score of 22 under par, good for second place behind the University of Michigan in the 12-team field. A sophomore from Upper Arlington, Ohio, he is majoring in Real Estate in the Farmer School of Business.
