One of the assistant principals at a Broward elementary school lost his temper with his girlfriend late Saturday night and pushed her to the ground, leading to his arrest on charges of robbery and domestic violence.
Marc Horowitz, 53, of Weston, is an assistant principal at Orange Brook Elementary School in Hollywood. Five years ago he was a finalist for Teacher of the Year at Flamingo Elementary School in Davie.
But on Saturday night, after a few drinks, he could not keep his temper in check, according to an arrest report. The victim is not named in the report, which identifies her as a woman and says she was in an argument with him after they got home.
During their argument, the woman told police, Horowitz snatched her phone from her hand, leading to a robbery-by-snatching charge. He then left the home for an unspecified amount of time, came back, and asked for a remote control. When she couldn’t find it, according to the report, Horowitz “pushed her to the ground with both open hands on her chest, causing her to fall on her left side.”
That led to the count of battery. His bond was set at $3,000 on Monday.
Horowitz is an assistant principal at Orange Brook Elementary School in Hollywood.
“Broward County Public Schools holds its school leaders to the highest standards of professional conduct and takes matters that may fall short of those standards seriously,” said Broward school district spokesman John Sullivan. Horowitz is reassigned as the district’s human resources department looks into the allegation. He faces possible termination, Sullivan said.
