New video shows Florida deputies arrest a fleeing hit-and-run suspect during an intense manhunt in a gator-infested swamp.
Martin County Sheriff’s Office officials said the suspect had been involved in a head-on hit-and-run crash before he bailed on foot and left an injured motorist behind on Aug. 26.
The suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Likenson Daceus, tried to hide in a large gator-infested swamp along the Martin-St. Lucie County line, authorities said.
Body camera and aerial footage released by the sheriff’s office showed Daceus wading through the swamp waters as deputies pursued him.
The sheriff’s office said they worked with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and others in the search, and after over two hours were able to capture Daceus.
Daceus faces charges including failure to remain at the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property and fleeing.
