ORLANDO, Fla. – Keith Moses, the man charged with killing three people in Pine Hills — including a 9-year-old girl — appeared in court Tuesday as his legal team works to push back his trial date to 2027.
Moses is facing the death penalty for a February 2023 shooting spree that claimed three lives. Authorities say he shot and killed 38-year-old Nathacha Augustin. Later that same day, the then-19-year-old allegedly went on a rampage, killing 9-year-old T’yonna Major and Spectrum News 13 reporter Dylan Lyons, who was covering Augustin’s death.
Moses has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case was originally set for trial this month, but was delayed after Moses’ attorneys asked for more time to prepare. His defense team is pursuing an intellectual disability claim, a legal argument they believe could remove the death penalty as a possible sentence.
“We’re making good progress. Mr. Moses recently has been tested for his IQ, and so we believe well before December we’ll be able to file a motion in that regard,” Ted Marrao, Moses’ attorney, told the judge.
Moses waived his right to appear in court Tuesday. The state and defense agreed to schedule the trial for August or September of 2027.
A court date to confirm the official trial date is expected before the end of the year.
