Deputies hospitalized, floor evacuated as firefighters respond to ‘suspicious substance’ at Orange County Courthouse
ORLANDO, Fla. —
Three people were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon as Orlando firefighters responded to a suspicious substance at the Orange County Courthouse, according to the fire department.
While serving an arrest warrant at the courthouse, Orange County deputies located an unknown substance on the person who was being arrested, causing the deputies to feel ill, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
The first floor of the courthouse was evacuated out of an abundance of caution as Orlando firefighters assessed the scene, the statement reads, adding, “the deputies were transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution.”
It was not immediately clear who among the three people hospitalized were deputies, if not all of them.
WESH 2 News went to the scene and observed that fire trucks were no longer there as of around 5 p.m.
Nothing further had been shared or confirmed at the time of this report.
