The world lost a generational icon last week, with the passing of country music singer, actress and philanthropist Dolly Parton. Now, Rooftop Cinema Club will honor the star’s legacy with a one-night-only screening of one of her classic films.
While many know her through favorites like “9 to 5” and “Jolene,” other fans would come to know the artist through her beloved roles in films, such as Truvy Jones in Steel Magnolias. The comedy drama boasts a legendary cast including Parton, Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hanna and Olympia Dukakis.
The South Beach cinema will screen the 1989 star-studded film on its rooftop at 8 p.m. Thursday, September 3. And the best part? Ten percent of ticket sales will benefit Parton’s Imagination Library, which mails free books to children from birth to age 5.

Other theaters screening Dolly Parton classics
Multiple South Florida theaters are also hosting special tribute screenings of Parton’s movies, including Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
Through this week, participating AMC Theatres at Sunset Place, Aventura and Pompano Beach are celebrating the “life and legacy of the legendary Dolly Parton with two classic films returning to AMC Theatres at discounted prices,” the company said in an Instagram post.
Meanwhile, Regal is expanding its showings of the two films across South Florida due to overwhelming support, with proceeds going to the Imagination Library via the Regal Foundation. Steel Magnolias will screen from September 4 through 8 and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas from September 5 through 9.
