Tampa International Airport shut down its Red Departures drive on Monday. A $1.2 million resurfacing project kicked off and won’t wrap up until mid-October. Travelers will get sent to the Red Express drop-off lanes while work crews tear out the old traffic coating and put down new material.
Back in May, the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board of Directors gave Restocon Corp. the green light on this contract. The work is part of routine upkeep designed to keep the airport running smoothly and prevent bigger problems down the road.
Anyone catching a flight on the Red Side will head to the Red Express Curbsides instead. Once there, travelers can follow posted signs to find elevators or escalators leading into the main terminal. Need a ticketing counter? You’ll go back down to the second floor.
Curbside bag check-in will operate at the Red Express Departures drive. Got your boarding pass and no bags to check? Take the Red Express escalators or elevators up to the third level, then hop on the shuttle to your airside terminal.
Want to skip the detour? Drop off at the Blue Side departures area and walk straight to your airline’s desk.
Red Side airlines at TPA are Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Avelo Airlines, Breeze Airways, British Airways, Discover Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Frontier, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and WestJet.
According to Fox 13 News, this project mirrors the pavement work completed on the Blue Departures drive last summer.
