POLK COUNTY, Fla. – An Orlando woman has been arrested after detectives accused her of trying to murder a 69-year-old man she met through a dating site, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
In a release, deputies said the investigation first kicked off on Aug. 20 after the victim reported an “unexpected medical incident.”
WHAT THE VICTIM SAID HAPPENED
Per investigators, he first met the woman — identified as Samantha Adams, 39 — through a dating app and knew her only as “Nala.”
The victim claimed they’d had an argument about a vehicle he purchased for her, after which Adams went to the kitchen while carrying her purse. She then reportedly returned to the victim with a couple glasses of whiskey, one of which he drank before “things progressed romantically,” deputies noted.

The intimacy escalated, but Adams allegedly stopped all of a sudden and said the victim would need to pay her $1,000 to continue. When the victim refused, she left, deputies explained.
“Later in the evening, the victim passed out, and he was taken to the hospital,” the release reads. “Medical staff determined he had suffered a Benzodiazepine overdose, but the victim said he does not have any Benzodiazepine.”
Detectives said they determined that Adams had purposefully mixed Benzodiazepine into the victim’s drink while at his home, with the victim further alleging that she may have poisoned him on at least three other occasions at her own home in Orange County.
During each of those incidents, the victim had “only a small amount to drink” but ended up feeling groggy, unsteady, or just passed out, deputies stated.
ADAMS ARREST
According to deputies, Adams was taken into custody on Aug. 27 at the Posner Park shopping center in Davenport after she agreed to meet the victim there.
“When she arrived in the parking lot, detectives moved in quickly to box-in her vehicle and take the suspect into custody,” the release continues.
According to deputies, Adams was found in possession of the following while in custody:
A prescription bottle (prescribed to someone else) containing 19 pills of Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen
2.5 pills of oxycodone hydrochloride
9 pills of Sertraline
1 partial pill of Adderall
1 partial pill of Alprazolam/Xanax
Now, she faces charges of second-degree attempted murder; tampering with evidence; possession of oxycodone; possession of hydrocodone; possession of alprazolam; resisting without violence; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of new legend drug without prescription; and offering to commit prostitution.
She is held without bond.
“It is possible that there could be more people out there who have been victimized by Samantha Adams,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. “Her motivation is money, and as we have seen with this case, she is willing to go to great lengths to get money — including murder.”
