An American Airlines gate agent at Miami International Airport was asking Yoel Guevara-Crespo, 33, “standard security questions” as he was about to board a flight to Cuba, according to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
When the gate agent asked Guevara-Crespo if he had lithium batteries or incendiary devices in his bag, he said, “No, but I have a bomb,” authorities said.
WPLG reported that the gate agent told Guevara-Crespo that he could not get on the flight and that she would be contacting her supervisor. Guevara-Crespo told her that he was joking.
Guevara-Crespo was arrested on a false bomb report charge, and authorities swept his luggage with a K-9 but did not find a bomb.
