They’ll always have Miami.
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade celebrated their 12th anniversary on Aug. 30 by looking back on Instagram.
In separate but similar posts, Wade and Union shared carousels of pictures from around the time they first became a couple in 2010.
Among the snaps was the Miami Heat legend and “Being Mary Jane” star exchanging vows during their over the top wedding, held at Chateau Artisan, a castle nestled in Homestead accessible by moat.
The star-studded affair had a guest list for the ages, with folks from both the sports world and Hollywood in attendance, including former teammate LeBron James and rapper Ludacris.
R&B singer John Legend performed the romantic ballad “You and I.” Comedian Kevin Hart, Union’s “Think Like A Man” costar, delivered a NSFW speech ( ”I apologize for cussing, people, but I’ve been drinking.”). Questlove took on DJ duties. Even the wedding officiant was famous — “Deliver Us from Eva” actress Essence Atkins, a longtime pal of Union’s.
“There were so many ‘Wow, oh my gosh, this is the best thing ever’ moments,” Union recalled to People of the “Coming to America” themed nuptials.
The high-profile pair, now based in L.A., went on to raise Wade’s two kids with his ex, Siohvaughn Funches, as well as his nephew. They also have a daughter of their own, Kaavia, now 7.
To doubters who said these two wouldn’t last, Wade, 44, and Union, 53, have proven them wrong.
The couple, who first met in 2007 while hosting party for Super Bowl 41 played at what is now Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, have definitely gone the distance. Struggles throughout their marriage included multiple, failed rounds of IVF (they eventually chose the surrogate route) and Wade’s kidney cancer.
“In this life, we have learned the lesson of celebrating what we DO have,” read Union’s homage on Sunday. “Through trials and challenges we have learned to celebrate evolving and learning to be our best selves for each other and our family. Today and every day, I get to celebrate in deep gratitude this life we have built. I love you baby.”
As for the NBA Hall of Famer, his message to his famous wife was short and sweet: “12 years of building a life, a family, and a love that continues to grow. Happy anniversary.”
