TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida is distributing 5.67 million eggs to food banks and pantries across the state—at no cost to households, foodbanks or taxpayers.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the eggs are Florida’s share of affordability relief following a nationwide settlement with 16 other states.
Under the settlement, egg producers will donate 53 million Grade A large eggs to food banks in participating states and will pay the states $3.3. million.
Cal-Maine Foods is providing Florida’s share of the eggs, as well as covering the storage, freight, shipping, handling and delivery.
The eggs will be distributed through Feeding Florida’s nine affiliate food banks.
The Second Harvest of the Big Bend will receive two truckloads for distribution.

Florida also receives a monetary payment of $348,490 for antitrust enforcement and consumer protection from the settlement.
“Eggs are a breakfast staple, not a luxury,” Uthmeier said. “When the price of a carton goes up, working families feel it every week at the checkout line.”
