The Chicago Fire are finalizing a deal to sign defender Noah Allen on loan from Inter Miami, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic.
Allen will join Chicago through the winter, while the deal comes with a purchase option. CL Merlo first reported the transaction.
Allen, 22, is a product of Miami’s academy. He made 132 first-team appearances for the club, winning MLS Cup, the Supporters’ Shield and Leagues Cup.
A natural left back, Allen can also play center back in a back three. A former U.S. youth international, Allen filed a one-time switch last year and now represents the Greek youth national team. He could make a senior debut in the coming year.
The move gives Chicago a talented, rising defender while Miami gets salary cap flexibility.
Miami signed Brazilian forward Riquelme Fillipi and are reported to bring in Paraguay international midfielder Matias Galarza before the end of the window. Brazilian veteran Casemiro joined this summer after the World Cup.
Adding Allen continues the Fire’s flurry of summer activity. Chicago moved U-22 initiative left back Viktor Radojević to CF Montréal on loan through the end of the season, one in a series of late-window moves for the club.
Chicago signed midfielder Anzor Mekvabishvili (Universitatea Craiova), center back Andreas Hanche-Olsen (Mainz 05) and attacker Johan Gómez (Eintracht Braunschweig) in addition to Allen, while sending out Radojević and Jason Shokalook (Real Salt Lake).
The Fire had previously signed Robert Lewandowski to kick off the summer then transferred Hugo Cuypers to CF Monterrey.
Miami and Chicago are among the best teams in the East, with Miami second and Chicago give points behind in third in the standings. Both are chasing Supporters’ Shield front-runner Nashville SC.
