‘It was dumb what I did’: Driver arrested for street racing on Beach Blvd.

  • September 2, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office patrol officer arrested a 30-year-old man late Friday night after witnessing what authorities say was street racing on Beach Boulevard.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 near the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Central Parkway.

News4JAX is not naming the driver because he is charged with a misdemeanor.

What officers saw

According to the arrest report, an officer conducting traffic enforcement in the area observed a white SUV in the middle lane revving its engine alongside another vehicle in the left lane. The second vehicle then spun its tires and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

“I could hear the vehicle’s engine revving then he passed me at a high rate of speed,” the officer wrote in the report.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver, the man immediately acknowledged his actions.

“It was dumb what I did,” the driver told the officer, according to the report.

Tires tell the story

Officers noted that the vehicle’s tires were extremely hot and covered in gravel — consistent with tire spinning. The entire interaction was also captured on the officer’s dash camera.

The suspect was placed under arrest for street racing. Following the reading of Miranda rights, JSO says the driver admitted to street racing and acknowledged the danger his actions posed.

“He stated that he was putting other lives in danger as well as his own,” the officer wrote.

The vehicle, a 2023 black Chevrolet Camaro bearing Georgia plates, was towed from the scene.

Charges, booking

The suspect was booked into the Pretrial Detention Facility just after midnight on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026. He faces one misdemeanor count of violating Florida’s street racing and stunt driving law.
