Woman killed in Florida hit-and-run crash caused by alligator, report says – NBC 6 South Florida

A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Florida that started when a driver struck an alligator, a report said.

The crash happened Monday morning on Interstate 95 in Titusville in Brevard County.

According to WESH, Florida Highway Patrol officials said a 58-year-old man from Canada was driving when he struck the alligator.

The woman, who was driving behind him, swerved, lost control and was ejected from her truck as it rolled over, officials said.

She was identified as Cassi Taylor, the daughter of an Indian River County Sheriff’s deputy, the agency said.

She had also joined the department as a civilian corrections assistant in July and was scheduled to be sworn in on Monday.

Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run driver.
