HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – A multi-vehicle collision at a major Hillsborough County intersection on Friday night claimed the lives of two people and left four others hospitalized, according to state troopers.
The crash occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026, at approximately 9:10 p.m. at the intersection of US Highway 41 and 24th Avenue South.
According to investigators, a Chevrolet Colorado SUV driven by a 44-year-old Ruskin man was traveling westbound on 24th Avenue South.
At the same time, two Kawasaki motorcycles were heading northbound on US-41.
Troopers reported that as the SUV reached the intersection, the driver made a left turn directly into the path of the first motorcycle, which was operated by a 31-year-old Tampa man.
The motorcycle was unable to stop and broadsided the turning SUV.
An 18-year-old Clearwater woman was riding as a passenger on the first motorcycle. Both she and the operator suffered critical injuries in the collision and were rushed to local area hospitals, where they both later died.
A second Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by a 20-year-old Tampa man, was traveling directly behind the first motorcycle. Upon witnessing the initial crash, the young motorcyclist steered sharply to the right in an attempt to avoid hitting the SUV, causing his motorcycle to overturn.
Emergency medical services transported all three drivers, as well as the passenger, to nearby hospitals.
The drivers of the SUV and the second motorcycle sustained injuries of varying severity.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. No further identities have been released at this time.
