Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz will be speaking on Saturday following the death of a deputy who was shot during an altercation with a subject while responding to a traffic crash.

The press conference will take place at the MDSO headquarters.

On Friday, Deputy Devin Jaramillo, 27, was shot shortly before 4 p.m. in the area of the 12200 block of Southwest 128th Street.

Cordero previously said Jaramillo, who worked in the Kendall District, had responded to a traffic crash before he was “brutally attacked and he was murdered.”

After bystanders called 911, deputies responded and gave Jaramillo first aid before he was rushed to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, the sheriff said.

A source close to the investigation told NBC6 the deputy was dispatched to a crash when one of the parties attacked him. After the gunfire, the assailant went back to a green Mustang and shot himself to death, the source said.

There was a second person at the crash scene who was being questioned, but he is not being considered as a suspect, and there’s no indication he will be charged, according to the source.

Footage also showed Coral Gables Police, Florida Highway Patrol troopers and FBI agents at the scene.

It was later learned that the sheriff’s office was investigating whether the deputy was shot with his own gun during the altercation.

Other Miami-Dade leaders spoke about the shooting.
