A man accused of driving 111 mph on Interstate 95 in St. Lucie County was jailed in connection with the “super speeder” law, according to an arrest affidavit.
Raymundo Sanchez Polanco, of Miami, was arrested Aug. 28 on a dangerous and excessive speeds charge by a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper.
The trooper about 7:44 p.m. reported traveling north on I-95 between Okeechobee Road and Orange Avenue and seeing a Ford Explorer make an improper lane change at speeds greater than the limit.
A radar device measured the speed at 101 mph in a 75 mph zone before the Ford’s speed increased to 111 mph, the affidavit shows.
The “super speeder” law went into effect in July 2025, and makes it a misdemeanor to travel 50 mph or more over the posted limit or travel 100 mph anywhere.
The trooper stopped the sport utility vehicle just south of Orange Avenue. The driver, identified as Sanchez Polanco, said he was traveling so fast because his wife in the front passenger seat had stomach pains.
St. Lucie County Fire District crews came to the scene.
Children ages 2, 9 and 10, and three other adults also were in the Ford, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit lists a date of birth for Sanchez Polanco reflecting an age of 44, while the jail lists one that makes him 41.
Sanchez Polanco was released Aug. 29 from the St. Lucie County Jail on $15,000 bond, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
