Florida BOG votes unanimously to ban undocumented immigrants from state universities

  • September 3, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A ban on undocumented immigrants from Florida universities passed unanimously in a Florida Board of Governors (BOG) meeting Thursday.

The board reportedly voted to amend General Admissions (Rule 6.001) to prevent undocumented students from enrolling in Florida’s universities. The agreed-upon changes go into effect starting in the 2027 to 2028 school year, per the amended regulation.

“Beginning with the 2027-28 academic year, a person who is present in the United States unlawfully shall not be eligible for initial enrollment in any state university,” the regulation reads.

The document continues that this rule applies to universities that did not admit all academically qualified applicants in the last two academic years.
