MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – The man accused of striking a 10-year-old girl with a dirt bike while fleeing police on Ocean Drive has been arrested, Miami Beach Police said.
Mandrell Rolle Jr. faces charges of reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash and resisting an officer without violence after he was taken into custody Wednesday night.
Police said the 29-year-old suspect was on probation for felony possession of a machine gun at the time of the arrest.
“Our detectives arrested Mandrell Rolle Jr. on multiple felony charges to include hitting a 10-year-old juvenile on Ocean Drive,” said Miami Beach Police spokesperson Christopher Bess.
According to investigators, the incident occurred near Ocean Drive and Seventh Street, at around 7 p.m. on Aug. 22.
Police said several people called 911 to report reckless dirt bike riders. When the riders got to Ocean Drive, officers approached them along the 700 block.
Detectitves said officers arrested one man, but Rolle took off and drove his dirt bike into the girl as he made his escape.
“Our officer gave him several commands to stop, and he decided to jump the curb, drive recklessly on a sidewalk, hit a 10-year-old girl, didn’t stop to render aid and thought he got away,” said Bess. “Well, last night he saw exactly what happens when you flee from Miami Beach Police.”
The girl was treated at the scene for some scratches, but was not seriously hurt.
At the time of the alleged crime, Rolle was out on federal probation for unlawful possession of a machine gun.
