JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Former councilman Reggie Gaffney Sr., Councilman Reggie Gaffney Jr. and community leaders will host a Teacher Appreciation Giveaway on Saturday, Sept. 12, recognizing educators from six Northside schools for their work educating, encouraging and inspiring Jacksonville children.
The event will honor teachers from Lakeshore Middle School; KIPP School; Jean Ribault Middle School; William M. Raines High School; Jean Ribault High School; and Andrew Jackson High School.
The giveaway will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Gateway Plaza, 5000-6 Norwood Ave. Teachers from the participating schools are invited to attend and receive free appreciation gifts while supplies last. Teachers need to bring school identification to participate.
“Our children are among the least among us — they depend on us to protect them, guide them and give them every opportunity to succeed. God has called us to care for those who need us, and I believe we have a responsibility to answer that call,” Reggie Gaffney Sr. said. “One of the greatest ways we can care for our children is by supporting the teachers who pour into them every single day. These educators give their time, their energy and their hearts to our kids, and this is our way of letting them know that we see them, we appreciate them and we stand with them.”
Gaffney Jr. said strong schools and communities begin with supporting the teachers that work with the kids.
“Teachers have an impact on our children that can last a lifetime,” Councilman Reggie Gaffney Jr. said. “They are educators, mentors and role models, and they help shape the future of our neighborhoods and our city. This giveaway is a small way for us to say thank you to the men and women who continue showing up for our children every day.”
