PITTSBURGH (Sept. 3, 2026) — After a knock-down, drag out battle last weekend with Tampa Bay, the Hounds will make the trip into the Florida sunshine where a Miami FC eager to stay in the playoff race awaits Saturday night.
The match has major standings implications on both ends of the playoff picture. The Hounds want to solidify their position in the top four of the Eastern Conference — particularly in light of a Wednesday night loss by Charleston — while Miami needs points to stay within shouting distance of eighth place, a gap that increased to six points because of Hartford dishing out that loss to Charleston.
For the Hounds, they will look for a repeat of the team’s 2-0 win at home over Miami back on May 30. Albert Dikwa and Charles Ahl scored the goals in the second half of that victory, and for Ahl, a Florida native, it gave him a goal in each of his three matches facing Miami.
The back line for the Hounds will look to build on blanking the Rowdies for a strong finish to August. Nico Campuzano recorded a clean sheet in four of the six matches in the month, and the team only allowed three goals total during that stretch.
The Hounds will be without head coach Rob Vincent on the sideline in Miami, as he serves a one-match suspension after being sent off during the 0-0 draw with the Rowdies, which leaves goalkeepers coach Jon Busch and assistant coach Adam Mitchell to divvy up the in-match responsibilities in the technical area.
Miami, meanwhile, has been on a slide of late, dropping three straight league matches and four overall after being knocked out by San Antonio in the quarterfinals of the Prinx Tires USL Cup. But the hosts will be closer to full strength than they were on their visit to Pittsburgh, as goalkeeper Eloy Room and leading scorer Jürgen Locadia — a former Premier League player with four seasons at Brighton — are both expected to be available after missing the earlier meeting while away with Curaçao for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In five years of competition between the two sides, the Hounds have only completed a season sweep of Miami once, that coming in 2024 when Miami finished bottom of the league with only three wins on the year. The Hounds’ bid to achieve the sweep this year will be shown live on KDKA+ with a replay at 1 p.m. Sunday. ESPN+ will be streaming the match, and local coverage in Spanish will be offered on Radio Las Palmas, 92.9 FM HD2.
